
The Public Art Policy reflects the City's commitment and desire to connect and engage with the community, as well as transform the spaces where we live, work, learn and play into vibrant, inviting and meaningful public places. It was approved in 2015, and was developed in consultation with community members. The Public Art Policy provides a clear and consistent framework related to the administration, selection, and maintenance of public art in Oshawa.

The Public Art Commission determined that developing an art plan for California Avenue was a priority for this year. The project is a recommendation developed within the City of Palo Alto Public Art Master plan adopted in 2016. The Public Art Master Plan was approved in 2018 and supports the effective planning of resources and budgeting, clear prioritization of projects and the determination of suitable locations. Art Builds Community is excited to work with the City of Palo Alto Public Art Program to develop a Public Art Plan for the California Avenue District. The Arts and Culture Master Plan defines a vision and identifies. The Art in Public Spaces Master Plan is supported by research included in the Planning Context Report. To articulate and propose a funding model for public art The Art in Public Spaces Master Plan will ultimately strengthen public art in Port Moody and build on the City’s brand of City of the Arts.To articulate and adopt a framework for site selection, identify specific sites/ potential projects and prioritize future public art projects.

It outlines a vision statement for public art in Oshawa: “Oshawa will be a community where Public Art is innovative, diverse, and accessible to create vibrant public spaces and meaningful connections.” The City of Oshawa is proud to have a Public Art Master Plan, which guides the ongoing implementation of the City's public art program.
